I spend tons of time on YouTube. My nightly routine includes hopping into bed, setting up my tablet and crocheting the night away (or at least until I get sleepy). One of my favorite things to watch are the youtube makeup gurus. These makeup gurus often demonstrate new brands and give an honest opinion on whether they are worth the buy or not. Some of them have designed their own makeup lines, but I really like to see them try on popular brands.
Often they will give an honest perspective by allowing you to follow them throughout the day while they give periodic updates on the makeup brand, followed by a final nightly review. These influencers also provide makeup tutorials and often collaborate with each other. I don’t like these gurus just because they provide makeup tips, but they make the world of makeup fun and entertaining.
Here is my list of the top 10 YouTube makeup gurus you need to follow (if you’re not already).
Note: I should warn you, some (not all) of these videos may contain strong language.
1. Jeffree Star
He’s number one on my list for a reason. I love Jeffree Star because he keeps it real, and he’s entertaining. He makes makeup application look so easy (I still struggle from time to time). Following him is a great way to learn about new products and you feel like you’re hanging out with a friend because he takes you with him on his travels around the world. He also has his own product line but continues to review new products. He recently announced he’ll be expanding his channel to make it more lifestyle-oriented so we’re excited to things to come!
She’s my second favorite. Not only is she gorgeous, but she tries new and interesting products all the time. She gives you full details on everything she puts on her face. One of my favorite features from her includes her WTF videos where she discusses if high-priced products are really worth the splurge.
3. Jaclyn Hill
Lots of Jacklyn Hill’s most recent videos discuss her new makeup line. Some in the comments criticize the videos for being advertisements but she doesn’t lose the tutorial aspect. Her video below is a dark magic tutorial featuring her new brush collection. My opinion, so what if she talks about her makeup line? I still love to watch the tutorials and how she gets those great looks.
4. James Charles
James Charles is not only a YouTube makeup guru, but he’s also a makeup artist and well known for being Cover Girl’s first male model. It’s pretty safe to say this guy knows what he’s talking about when it comes to makeup. Did I mention he’s only 19? Check out his new video on easy makeup for back to school (or work).
I love Nikkie’s YouTube channel because she features so many different makeup looks. The overall layout of her videos is colorful and inviting and I find myself watching lots of her videos in a row. One of her favorite sayings? “When life gives you lemons, punch it in the face and ask for glitter!”
If you aren’t familiar with some, or any of these gurus, I encourage you to check them out now. I know there’s a ton that I left out so let me know in the comments. Which ones are your favorite?
